We took a little road trip yesterday. Oh what fun. First was Stillwater/Oklahoma State University, home of the Cowboys (and T. Boone Pickins new stadium.. formerly know as Lewis field). The "Fowl Thing" at Eskimo Joes was a must on the agenda. Then we drove around and showed Emma where Mommy went to college. That made me miss OSU so much. I lived in Stillwater until I was 7 years old. Then came back for college. It was so strange because a lot of the community still remembered my father, and me, for that matter.
We then drove on to Arcadia on highway 66. I had NO IDEA what was there. This was one of my father's things to do. There is a place called Pops -- the coolest convenince store and grill I have ever seen. There is a 66 foot pop bottle out in front that goes neon at night. And let me tell you Arcadia is in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing there except for one other thing, which I will mention later. The overhang for the gas station is just huge. BUT, the inside, aw, the inside. The walls are glass with glass shelves that have thousands of vintage pop bottles glued to them. Soda pop you have ever seen, or in my dad's case, have not seen in years. Then you get inside and the refrigerated cases have hundreds of kinds of vintage soda in glass bottles. I was floored. You could literally go bonkers in there. They even have cola made out of cane sugar - which tastes incredible. NOTHING like our high fructose sugar, which is sooo good for you (being totally fecicious). They have roughly. They have drinks from Germany, Mexico, Canada, Japan and from all over. And they have the Dublin Dr. Pepper.
The man who built all this had no idea this would happen. He, is already working on expanding the diner portion because there are only about 6-8 booths! You have to wait in line forever to eat there. We where going to try, but there was no way.
The other item to see in Arcadia is the Big Red Barn built in 1898 by a Mr. Odor.
This was pretty amazing. I have never seen a round barn. I guess in the late 80's early 90's they had to do a lot of restoration work on it because it just about fell in.
Since it is still hot around here this time of year, not the most comfortable thing to be in, but really neat all the same.
